Three Wishes

This is my first take in writing a book review. So anyone who bumps into this, I hope you like it.

While my aim was to beat my last years number of books read, that did not happen. The beginning of this year has been way too busy, impossibly busy that up to this point I have only read less than 10 books.

After so many attempts, my first ever book review.

Three Wishes
By Kristen Ashley
409 pages
Published 4/8/2011

This novel is about withstanding trials and tribulations, a test of true love, friendship and a mothers love for her daughter.

The story revolves around a girl named Lily, who wished the man of his dreams from a genie. With her wish comes the trials and tribulations.

Fazire, the genie from the bottle was a gift from Lily's grandfather to her grandmother Sara. He has been in their family for decades, which was unusual for a genie to be staying out of the bottle that long. Why that long? The wishes were passed on from the grandmother Sara, down to the grand daughter Lily.

“Fazire, I wish one day to find a man like in my books . He has to be just like in one of my books. And he has to love me, love me more than anything in the world. Most important of all, he has to think I’m beautiful. We have to go through some trials and tribulations. Something to test our love, make it strong and worthy.”-Lily

This wish was made when she was 14, after her heart was broken by a boy in school. After 8 years, her wish was granted.

It was interesting how Lily met Nate, and in two weeks they were in love. But in that short period of time they were separated due to a tragic circumstance. Thus, began the trials and tribulations.

After 7 years, the trials started to see the light of day but it doesn't end there more trials came but nothing Lily can not surpass.

What binds Nate to Lily is his love, their love for one another. But most of all, the love for their family. The ending is more than a wish come true for Lily.

I will end it there to avoid spoilers.

While in the first few pages I didn't want to continue reading it. The storyline is somewhat realistic, possible to happen in real life. But the genie??? Yes, a genie! As in three wishes genie. I have read tons of books about vampires, fairies, ghosts, wizards and witches in the past but never about a genie. I asked myself, do I really want to read this? Cause I kind of took a leave from that genre. But it really depends on my mood. So there, I read it.

And now, I am really, really sad that I have just finished reading it. I loved it, and looked forward to reading it everyday on my home from work. I will definitely miss this, I have cried buckets of tears and laughed like there's no tomorrow. I didn't want it to end, there are books that you can't put down and can't wait to finish so you read them chapter after chapter even if it's way past your bedtime. But this, I savored every page and every chapter, I made sure to read just a few pages in my hour and a half travel from the office. I just loved it and didn't want to finish it right away.

I thought the genie added kick to this story, without Fazire's character this would've been dull and somewhat cliché. Fazire, in this story is a friend you'd wish you have.

What would you wish for?

I give this book 4.5 stars, gosh I have never cried so much tears over a book. Sure I have cried over movies portrayed by actors based on novels. But this, I must say you beat Nicholas Sparks in the tears I've shed in this novel. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Sparks but then maybe because I can somehow relate to the story.

Therefore, I highly recommend this book. It is full of laughs, filled with drama, trials and triumph. There are some parts not suitable for teenagers though, so reader discretion is advised.

Enjoy reading...
